Former Mbarara City players Hillary Mukundane and Paul Mucureezi got on target for Vipers SC as they defeated Busoga United 2-0 in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played on Wednesday afternoon in Kitende.
Mukundane netted his first venoms goal in 25th minute before Mucureezi came from the bench to double his side’s lead.
Vipers started off the game brightly and were gifted a chance to break the deadlock in 4th minute after Milton Karisa was fouled in the forbidden area. Bright Anukani stood up but unluckily he missed from six yards.
Vipers continued to be dominant in the game and Anukani made amends for his miss in setting up Vipers opener. He swing in a wonderful freekick that was headed in by Mukundane in 25th minute.
The Venoms had several chances to double their lead on several occasions but first, Livingstone Mulondo headed wide a brilliant Anukani freekick in 38th minute before Busoga United’s goalkeeper Andrew Ssekandi denying Karisa.
Busoga’s best chance in the opening half fell to Ntege Anwar but he blazed high after being set up by Ssaka Ssozi.
After being dominated by Vipers in the opening half, Busoga United returned for the closing half a far different side and started dominating some of the proceedings that led to them creating two goalscoring chances but Paul Ssekulima and Ntege’s effort were saved by Fabien Mutombora.
Vipers head coach Robert Oliviera made a double introduction at the hour-mark to bring on Najib Yiga and Paul Muçureezi for Caesar Manzoki and Siraje Sentamu respectively.
Vipers had the game’s next goalscoring chance but Karisa headed wide after a deflected Anukani cross.
With six minutes left on the clock, Mucureezi combined well with another substitute Karim Watambala to double the Venoms’ lead with a sublime strike into the back of the net.
With the victory, Vipers SC extend their lead atop of the Uganda Premier League log to four points after KCCA drew 1-1 with Police on Tuesday.
The loss means Busoga United remains two places and three points above the relegation zone ( but could drop to relegation if Onduparaka beats Mbarara City)
