StarTimes UPL: KCCA set for “War” against Onduparaka

Kampala Capital City Authority ( KCCA) will host Onduparaka at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Saturday evening in a match they have dubbed a “War”

This is after the Kasasiro Boys were forced to play a replay against the Caterpillars by the Uganda Premier League Secretariat early this month after the initial first leg game was ended before finish after the Onduparaka supporters invaded the pitch to protest Ronald Mandada call to award KCCA a late penalty with scores 2-all.

The rearranged game was played at the Bombo Military Stadium and it ended 1-all after Denis Iguma opened the scoring for KCCA before Filbert Obenchan netted in his own net to grant Onduparaka an equaliser.

Into the game itself, KCCA are only four points behind leaders Vipers SC, and know a victory against Onduparaka will mean the gap is trimmed to only a point ahead of the last 12 games of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

They come into this game, having dropped seven points from their last four game and have also failed to score more than once in a UPL game since their 3-1 victory over Police in December despite fire power they possess up front this season that includes Patrick Kaddu, Davis Kasirye, Brian Aheebwa, Sadat Anaku and Charles Lwanga.

Meanwhile, their opponents Onduparaka sit 12th on the log with 17 points in 17 games, but come into this game after a resulting 3-1 home victory over Busoga United with former KCCA striker Muhammad Shaban netting a brace.

The Caterpillars sit just a point above relegation zone, but a victory over the Kasasiro Boys could take them as high as 10th on the log.

Speaking ahead of the game, KCCA gaffer Morley Byekwaso predicted a tough encounter as it has always been against the Caterpillars.

“We need to work so hard tomorrow if we are to get maximum points against them. The past two games we have played against them were tough and this will not be any different.” Byekwaso said before adding;

“We know we are at home, we need to exhibit that confidence and play. We have been working on our finishing lately and we hope the lads can show that on the field of play.”

“We have been creating many chances but not turning them into goals so we need to start scoring and this will instill confidence in the players and then they will play.” He concluded.

Key Statistics

Onduparaka have not beaten KCCA since their first season in the division in 2016 – they won 2-1 on the day.

Since then, they have lost seven and drawn twice in the past eight meetings with the latest draw being in their last meeting on Neutral ground in Bombo.

Onduparaka FC has never picked points away against KCCA FC. In the five games played between both sides at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, KCCA FC has won five out of five.

Team News

KCCA will still be without Denis Iguma, Julius Poloto, Ali Mwurusi, Peter Magambo and Sadat Anaku. Iguma is out with an hamstring injury while Anaku, Poloto and Mwirusi have been with the Team Fundi team in Spain.
