StarTimes UPL: KCCA defeat Onduparaka in ‘War’ to close gap on Vipers

Herbert Achai, Usama Arafat and Hassan Jurua were on target on Saturday evening as KCCA defeated Onduparaka 3-1 at MTN Omondi Stadium to move within a point off leaders Vipers SC.

Meeting for the third time,
KCCA FC started off brightly, dominated proceedings and got their reward in the 34th minutes through Achai, who struck a freekick into the back of the net after Ashraf Mugume was fouled just outside the box by Davis Mayanja.

Before the goal though, Kasasiro boys had a few half chances but failed to utilise them. The chances fell to Davis Kasirye and Mugume.

After a horrible opening half by the Caterpillars, they came back from restart a more different and determined side, creating chance after chance including Muhammad Shaban’s volley that rattled the crossbar.

But it was KCCA, who instead got the second with Arafat putting the ball into the back following Davis Kasirye’s effort that was punched back to play by Michael Kagiri.

With seven minutes to the death of the game, Baden Mujahid bought back some hope for the caterpillars with a sublime acrobatic strike to provide a nervy ending.

But before the death of the game, Jurua raced in from to send in a ferocious shot past Kagiri to seal the victory for the Kasasiro Boys.

This eleventh victory for KCCA this season takes them to 39 points, one behind leaders Vipers who drew 1-all with UPDF FC on Friday.

For Onduparaka, who have lost their seventh game this season stay 12th on the log with 17 points. They are a point above the relegation zone.
