Substitute Dada Ibrahim netted a late winner for URA FC as they overcame Onduparaka 2-1 in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played at the Arena of Visions, Ndejje.
Dada netted the winner with seven minutes left on the clock after Mansour Safi had cancelled out Steven Mukwala’s first half opener.
The Tax Collectors started the brightest and had the first game’s realistic goalscoring attempt in the 22nd minute when Mukwala missed from close range.
Moments later, Shafiq Kagimu also had his ferocious attempt saved by Michael Kagiri.
Onduparaka first attempt on goal came with 26 minutes on the clock, but Nathian Alionzi made a brilliant save to deny Patrick Sserunjogi’s header.
Alionzi also denied Mohammad Shaban few minutes later- making himself big to stop Shaban’s effort. Shaban rebounded but Patrick Mbowa also made a goal-line clearance to deny him.
With 10 minutes to the break, Mukwala finally broke the deadlock, putting the ball into the back of net after running onto Vianne Ssekajugo’s headed flick.
But before the goal, Mukwala had missed from close range after a nice setup by Kagimu.
The game went into the break with the hosts leading 1-0, but three minutes after restart, Onduparaka equalised through Mansour Safi’s well-hit freekick from almost 40-yards that oozed past Alionzi.
With his side having lost the lead, URA FC head coach Sam Timbe made a double change to his lineup midway the closing half to bring on Cromwell Rwothomio and Dada Ibrahim for Ssekajugo and Moses Sseruyinde respectively.
With just seven minutes on the clock, Dada rose highest to head in Ivan Sserubiri’s cross and deservingly restore Tax Collectors advantage.
Onduparaka tried to level matters again, but that wasn’t possible as the game ended 2-1.
The results means URA FC return to winning ways and now move to 38 points in 20 games. They are now five points behind leaders Vipers SC (who have played a game less)
With the painful loss, Onduparaka stay just above the relegation zone as they sit 13th with 18 points.
