Busoga United has won the first Jinja derby in the 2021/22 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season.

Thanks is after they defeated new entrants Gaddafi FC 2-0 at the Gaddafi Arena Stadium on Monday evening.

Anwar Ntenge and Elvis Ngonde netted the two goals for Busoga as they got the better of the Soilders Boys.

The match started in a relatively slow fashion, with both teams taking a more cautious approach and in the end, resorted to a pound for pound approach limiting each other to a few chances as relaised.

Gaddafi FC was the better side though throughout the first half as they controlled proceedings while Busoga were struggling to find a rhythm depicted by the lack of serious threats at the home side’s goal.

The first half was far from an entertaining half with the only realistic attempt on goal coming in the 36th minute after Andrw Waiswa had his header parried away for the corner by Busoga United custodian Michael Nantamu.

After a lackluster first half, Busoga returned from the break a far better side and nearly took the lead two minutes in by Ssaka Ssozi’s long range was part away by Gaddafi goalie Mujampwani.

Three minutes later, Busoga did take the lead after Ntege ran onto a long dipping ball to square it to Ngonde who did no mistake than to tap into an empty net with Mujampwani off the line.

A minute later, Ntege turned from goal provider to goalscorer as hetapped in a well driven Patrick Onzima cross to extend his sides lead.

Busoga United were unlucky not to extend their lead in the 72nd minute after Ssozi made a wonderful turn to shot but his effort went agnozingly above the crossbar.

Gaddafi’s best goalscoring attempt of the game fell to Substitute Alex Kitata but he failed to find the target after a Steven Munguchi flick.

In the later exchanges of the game, Ngonde was set off for a second bookable offense by George Olemu.

In the next games, Gaddafi FC visit KCCA FC on Friday, the same team Busoga United will play next on October 27.
