Shafik Bakaki’s own goal was the only difference as Busoga United defeated SC Villa in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Thursday.
Bakaki was unlucky with the ball after it bounced off his body into the back of net after Ntege Anwaar’s bullet header had rattled the crossbar and back into play .
The opening half was a dull and cagey affair as both side struggled to create any meaningful chance upfront.
But the game sprang into life in the second half and Jogoos had the first chance to break the deadlock but Nicholas Kabonge was unlucky as his ferocious effort from outside the box kissed off the crossbar and went out of play.
But the visitors were the better side as they dominated most of the proceedings and went close to finding the back of the net in the 58th minute but were denied by Meddie Kibirige who made a brilliant save to stop Antony Mayanja’s effort.
But Kibiringe conceded just two minutes afterwards, Bakaki put the ball into his own net after Ntege’s header.
Busoga thought they had doubled their lead in the 70th minute but Anwaru’s effort was flagged offside.
Busoga United held on to secure the well deserve victory and now leapfrog Villa on the Uganda Premier League log.
Busoga United move to 11th on the log with 20 points while SC Villa drops to 12th with 18 points.
