Striker Yunus Sentamu netted later on in the game to help Vipers SC overcome Kigezi HomeBoys in a Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 64 game played in Kabale.
With just three minutes left on the clock, Sentamu found the back of the net from outside the box to crack a resilient Kigezi side that was so solid at the back throughout the game.
Sentamu, Denis Mwemezi, Caesar Manzoki and Livingstone Mulondo were all denied by the Kigezi HomeBoys goalkeeper and defenders who defended tirelessly before the goal.
After today’s victory, Vipers will play Kalango FC in the round of 32 on Saturday evening in Agago.
Vipers are the defending champions of the Uganda Cup, having beaten BUL 8-2 in the final last year.
Elsewhere in the round of 32, UPDF FC defeated Impala FC 1-0 courtesy of Yasin Sabir’s late goal.
With just a minute to the end of the game, the 16-year old found the back of net after dribbling past his marker.
