KCCA FC will continue their bid to win a first Uganda Cup crown since 2018 when they take on Solitilo Bright stars at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo on Friday evening
The Kasasiro Boys who are joint-record winners of the competition, have struggled in the competition in the last couple of years and will be hoping they finally put their struggles to an end this season.
Morley Byekwaso’s side were 2-1 away winners against Busia United FC in the round of 64.
In their first UPL 18 games, they have lost just once and should be confident of taking care of an inconsistent Bright stars side on Friday.
Without a host of players due to injury (Peter Magambo, Wasswa Emmanuel, Wasswa Geofrey and Kayanja Brian), KCCA will also be Dominic Ayella who is away because of school commitments.
Byekwaso came out and said, “Anaku, Mwirusi and Poloto are back and we shall asses them in the last training. Iguma is back and will make the squad, Kaddu will miss the game but will most likely be back against Express FC. ”
Ahead of the game, Byekwaso still insists his side’s target is to win.
“Our targets have never changed said in his pre-match interview. We want to win the League and Uganda Cup. The players, technical and management are all focused on this and that is the goal. ” he said
“It’s abit worrying that our forwards are not scoring but we have handed the responsibility to each and every player to score.” he added
“We have taken them through drills that enable each and every one to score goals when handed a goal scoring opportunity. “he concluded
Last season at this stage last year, KCCA FC beat Big League side Maroons FC 5-0 on aggregate but went on to be eliminated Express FC at the quarterfinal stage on away goals rule.
For Bright Stars, they are hoping to make deep strides in the competition and forge a name for themselves.
They have already defeated Free stars FC 7-6 on penalties after both sides played out a one-all draw in normal time.
This will be the second meeting between the two sides in all competitions this season after they meet at Kavumba in a 1-all stalemate last year in Uganda Premier League.
The Kasasiro Boys have a brilliant record against the Bright Stars, having won 10 of the last 17 meetings. Bright Stars has two wins while the other five have ended in spoils.
The other games to played on Friday 25th February will see Bul FC away to Busoga United at Kakindu Stadium, Jinja, Ateker will host Maroons at Soroti Stadium while Police will also host Gaddafi at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
