Innocent Maduka delivered an outstanding performance as Blacks Power FC upset Uganda Premier League side NEC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 32, with a dominant 2-0 victory at Lugogo on Tuesday evening.
The FUFA Big League side showcased resilience and tactical discipline to outclass NEC, thanks to second-half goals from Former Arua Hill forward Maduka and youngster Joshua Omara.
NEC had a golden opportunity to take the lead early in the second half through a penalty, but Paul Mucureezi’s goal was controversially ruled out for a double kick, leaving the hosts frustrated.
Blacks Power capitalized on NEC’s misfortunes, with Maduka opening the scoring in style.
The forward skillfully weaved past defenders before slotting the ball past a helpless Benjamin Ochan.
With ten minutes to play, Omara sealed the win after a brilliant exchange with the impressive Maduka, ensuring Blacks Power marched into the Round of 16.
Despite NEC’s efforts, they struggled to break down a disciplined Blacks Power side, and only Ochan’s heroics between the posts prevented a heavier defeat.
This victory marks a remarkable campaign for Blacks Power, who are also in strong contention for promotion in the FUFA Big League.
Meanwhile, pressure mounts on NEC head coach Hussein Mbalangu, as his team has now suffered back-to-back disappointments.
They will look to bounce back in the league when they host Lugazi FC this Saturday at Lugogo.
