Defending champions Kitara FC secured a spot in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16 after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Kampala Regional League side CATDA FC at Bugolobi Coffee Ground.

Patrick Kaddu’s 71st-minute header gave Kitara the lead before an own goal from Kikambwe Martin in the 89th minute sealed the win.

CATDA FC had briefly revived their hopes with an 84th-minute equalizer, but Kitara ultimately edged past the resilient third-division side.

Despite facing lower-tier opposition in both rounds, having previously defeated Young Simba FC 4-0.

Wasswa Bbosa’s side remains on course to defend their title and secure a CAF Confederation Cup slot.

Kitara now shifts focus to the Uganda Premier League, where they host URA FC on March 1 at Royal Park Butema.

They join SC Villa, Total FC, and Rwenzori Lions in the Round of 16.
