St. Noa Girls FC have officially announced the appointment of former Uganda Cranes midfield maestro Tonny Mawejje as the new head coach of their women’s football team.

The reigning Elite League champions, who proudly represent St. Noa Girls Secondary School in the Finance Trust FUFA Women’s Super League, have turned to the former national team star to steer the club into a new chapter of success. Mawejje replaces Jimmy Kintu Mwera, who recently joined newly-promoted Cavalry FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League

Though best known for his illustrious playing career with the Uganda Cranes, Mawejje has been quietly building a solid foundation in coaching. He most recently served as an assistant coach at Wakiso Giants FC during the 2024/25 season, working under head coach Steven Bengo. Prior to that, he was the deputy coach at Kampala Queens Women’s Football Club, where he gained vital experience alongside veteran tactician Charles “Kadidi” Senyange.

These stints have equipped Mawejje with key insights into both the men’s and women’s games, making him a strong candidate to lead one of Uganda’s top-tier women’s football sides.

St. Noa Girls FC, based in Zana, has already established itself as a powerhouse in school-level and elite women’s football. After clinching the Elite League title, the focus now shifts to maintaining that dominance at the highest level of competition.

Mawejje’s mandate will include sustaining the club’s top-tier status, delivering consistent results in the FUFA Women’s Super League, and perhaps most crucially, developing the next generation of female football talent.

In their official announcement, St. Noa Girls FC praised Mawejje’s leadership qualities, footballing experience, and understanding of the women’s game as key reasons behind the appointment. The club expressed confidence that his arrival would “usher in a new era of ambition and development.”

Mawejje takes over at a time when women’s football in Uganda is rapidly growing in popularity and investment. With his name recognition, experience on the pitch, and emerging coaching acumen, St. Noa Girls FC appear well positioned to continue their upward trajectory under his guidance.

St. Noa Girls FC is the official football team of St. Noa Girls Secondary School, Zana. The team competes in the Finance Trust FUFA Women’s Super League and has built a strong reputation for excellence both in academics and sports.
