The UCA Men’s 50-Over League roars back to life this Saturday after the Easter break, with both Division One and Division Two promising an action-packed weekend of cricket.
Among the standout fixtures is Soroti City Cricket Club’s clash with Budo Cricket Club on April 26 at the Entebbe Cricket Oval.
Originally scheduled for Lugogo, the venue change was made due to pitch unavailability.
Soroti City head into the fixture brimming with confidence after a gritty 5-wicket win over Jinja SS in their season opener on March 29 at Jinja SS Oval.
Opting to bowl first, Soroti’s disciplined bowling unit skittled Jinja SS for just 69 in 31.1 overs.
Jacob Malinga (3/17), Juma Sururu (3/6), and Steven Okiror (2/11) led the charge.
Extras contributed a whopping 35 runs to Jinja’s modest total, highlighting their struggles.
Chasing the small target, Soroti suffered an early setback but captain Ronald Ebulu’s composed 22 ensured a comfortable win in just 11 overs.
Despite a brief fightback from Jinja SS bowler Kenneth Isiko, Soroti secured the points with ease.
Budo CC also made a strong start to their campaign with a win over Nile CC, but Soroti top Group A on net run rate.
The upcoming clash promises fireworks, especially given Soroti’s dominance over Budo in February’s T20 encounters, where they won both matches convincingly.
Adding intrigue to the fixture, key players return from the U19 qualifiers in Nigeria.
Budo welcome back Ali Balidawa and Owili Robert, while Soroti regain Ochen Peter.
Additionally, Kuteesa Hilary, absent on matchday one, has been spotted training at Lugogo and could feature.
Among the key players to watch for Soroti City are Oluka Richard, Joel Epiangu, and Felix Musana, all of whom showed impressive form during the recently concluded Easter Games that happened in Soroti.
Elsewhere, Division Two offers its share of excitement. Jinja SS host Nile as both chase their first wins in Group A.
In Group B, Premier takes on Ismaili Community, with both teams yet to open their accounts.
Mukono Development faces local rivals Mukono Warriors in a derby with pride on the line.
In Division One, Avengers aim to end their losing streak against Rounders, while Wanderers meet JACC in search of form.
A postponed game delays the Kutchi Tigers vs Tornado Bees fixture.
The weekend’s highlight is the top-of-the-table clash between unbeaten Aboojo and Ceylon Lions — a game steeped in rivalry and high stakes.
