Something to Fight for; JKL Lady Dolphins aim for 5th Place at the FIBA Africa Women’s Basketball Zonal Qualifiers

JKL dolphins have picked up their third win at the FIBA Africa Women’s basketball zonal qualifiers against Gladiators from Burundi with a 77:45 victory in Zanzibar on Friday afternoon.

Brenda Ekone led the score with 23 points along with Shaton Kirabo and Evely Nakiyinji with 13 and 12 respectively.

This puts back smiles in the dressing room following two consecutive losses. The Ugandan champions were stood a heavy defeat in their last group game, 61:100 against Al Ahly of Egypt despite winning their two opening games against Vinjana Queens and Youn Sisiters from Tanzania and Brundi respectively by relatively heavy margins.

These wins were enough to secure a quater final score JKL but a 57:67 defeat against Rwanda’s REG which will face off against Al Ahly in the finals on Saturday.

These two have filled the top two automatic slots to the Basketball Africa League in Dakar, Senegal, this December.

What’s left for JKL is a fight is prestige as they battle for a 5th place finish against Kenya’s Equity Bank tomorrow.
