The stage is set for the third edition of SHACK League set to kick off on September 28 at Legends grounds in Lugogo. Unlike last season, which was split into groups, this year’s edition will adopt a full round-robin format featuring 20 teams.

Each side will play a total 19 matches, with about two fixtures scheduled every matchday and the champions set to be crowned after ther grand finale on MD8 set for 28th June.

During a press briefing today, league Technical Director Joseph Luate urged all St Henry’s College Kitovu alumni to get involved: “This league is for everyone. It’s more than just football it’s about old friends coming together to create new memories.”

The league will maintain its signature 7-a-side format, with six outfield players and a goalkeeper on the pitch. To promote inclusivity, teams will be allowed an extra female player on the pitch.

“The transfer market is open until 24 hours before Matchday One,” Luate said. “Teams are free to sign players from different cohorts, though eligibility remains restricted to SHACK alumni. However, female players can be signed from outside the alumni network in the spirit of our theme old friends, new memories. We believe this cross-player pattern will foster valuable networking opportunities.”

Among the teams gearing up for the new season is Apeta Kings, who won last season’s Butolwa Cup and finished fourth in the main league. Their team manager, Bukulu Denis Paul, promised a fierce campaign this time round.

“The opening day is going to be a baptism of fire,” Bukulu said. “We have set up a residential camp to get the players in top shape. We were initially based at Kenlon Hotel, but after the league’s venue moved to Legends, we relocated to Protea to be closer.”

He revealed that injuries hampered their performance last season, with key players like striker Byoleko Robert undergoing an eye operation, defender Kiberu Tom and the captain both sidelined mid-season. “We are also expecting reinforcements, including Mutyaba Robert who has been away from the country and is set to join us on Saturday,” Bukulu added. “With the quality and preparations we’ve had, I believe we shall be very competitive this season.”

This season’s opener will also be headlined by the Kaba hitmaker, Kapeke.
