Record Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa have parted ways with Greek head coach Petros Koukouras just after one-season in charge at the Jogoos.
The development was confirmed and made public by the club on Thursday 23rd June in press statement signed by Omar Ahmed Mandela, the Villa President.
“Sports Club Villa has today amicably parted ways with its Head Coach, Petros Koukouras.” part of the statement released by the club read.
“Petros leaves with our sincerest appreciation for steering the Club through a very tough season and the Club wishes him well in his next endeavours.”
Koukouras joined Villa at the start of last season and almost got Villa relegated from the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, finishing 12th on the log with 33 points, only five points above the relegation line.
In 33 games as Villa head coach in all competitions, he managed only 10 wins, 11 draws and 12 losses in a season that was filled with a lot of chaos and poor player management.
At the start of the 2021/22 season, Koukouras was accused of failing to field the right players after trying to stick to a whole new and inexperienced team of players that failed to find a result, until he started fielding more experienced ones that got the team started.
At the end of the season, former Villa defender and Cranes Captain, Andrew Mwesigwa was appointed the Technical Director of the club and started to ring changes at the 16-time champions, among which was the appointment of former KCCA FC and U17 coach, Jackson Magero as the interim head coach after letting go of the foreign coach.
