Run for Her: Absa KH3-7 Hills Run officially launched

The second edition of the Absa Kampala Hash House Harriers (KH3) – 7 Hills Run is set to take place on Sunday, March 17, 2024, featuring 5KM and 21 KM distances.

Starting and finishing at Kololo Airstrip in Kampala, Uganda, this run traverses the seven iconic hills of the city: Mengo, Kololo, Kibuli, Namirembe, Old Kampala, Nakasero, and Makerere.

Just like the inaugural event, this run aims to support the education of girl children in Uganda, sponsored by Absa Bank Uganda.

Mumba Kalifungwa, the Managing Director of Absa Bank Uganda, expressed gratitude for the participants’ support in the previous year, which raised over Ug.shs 200,000,000. These funds facilitated the reintegration of 2700 girls into school. Kalifungwa acknowledged the other partners involved, including Kakira Sugar, New Vision, UAP Insurance, Uganda Red Cross, DHL, Bakayima, Kampala Pharmaceuticals, Crown Beverages (Aqua fina water and tents), Hostalite Web Managers, Fenon Events, and others.

“Last year, over Ug.shs 200,000,000 was collected. These funds were channeled towards re-intergrating the girl child into school. A total of 2700 girls were supported. We continue to thank the other partners on board as Kakira Sugar, New Vision, UAP Insurance, Uganda Red Cross, DHL, Bakayima, Kampala Pharmacuticals, Crown Beverages (Aqua fina water and tents), hostalite web managers, Fenon events and many others” Kalifungwa noted.

Gerald Okware represented the Hash Master, Wilberforce Kyambadde, during the official launch at Kampala Serena Hotel. Kyambadde emphasized the importance of upholding the spirit of Ubuntu.

“Let us uphold the spirit of Ubuntu” Kyambadde noted in a speech read by Okware.

In Uganda, girls face various challenges in accessing education, such as poverty, cultural norms, early marriages, unwanted pregnancies, and menstrual hygiene management issues.

The inaugural run, held on May 28, 2023, was a resounding success.

Runners during the inaugural Absa KH-3 7 Hills Run that was held last year.

The 2024 edition promises to be fun and inclusive, attracting a diverse range of runners, including professionals like multiple gold medalist Joshua Cheptegei.

Participants can compete for prizes, including a plot of land in various categories. The top runner will receive a plot of land worth Ug.Shs 14,500,000 at the Crown Estate in Bujuuko.

The kits for the run are priced at UGX 30,000 each. With over 2,600 participants, the inaugural run raised UGX 200 million, directly benefiting over 2,500 girls.
