The Uganda Rugby Cranes have announced a 23-man squad to face off against arch-rivals Kenya in the 19th edition of the Elgon Cup first leg which was initially scheduled for 2nd November at King’s Park.

It will now be played in Kenya on 9th at Nganga Road.

Lubambula expressed optimism about the team’s preparation, despite a short window;

“We’ve had an amazing team gel, and the boys are up to the task,” he said. “Of course, it can never be 100%, but we believe we have hit our set goals in preparing the players.”

Notable omissions from the squad include Faraji Odugo and Nathan Bwambale whilst Mongers skipper Philip Odrua is set to make his national team debut.

Lubambula acknowledged the challenge of playing at Ngong Road (RFUEA Ground) but believes the team is prepared;

“Playing at Ngong Road is quite tough, and it’s been evident in previous encounters with Kenya,” he said. “But we have worked on building team depth, and this is a base for next year’s Rugby Africa Cup.”

This year’s winner will be crowned on 16th, November after the return leg in Kampala at King’s Park Arena.

The Rugby Cranes squad is led by captain Byron Oketayot, with Conrad Wanyama serving as vice-captain.
