For the first time since its founding, PUSH Cricket Academy has crossed international borders, heading to Nairobi, Kenya, to compete in the prestigious Obuya Tournament 2025.
The tournament, returning after a five-year hiatus, brings together ten academies across multiple age categories, each chasing the ultimate prize in their division.
PUSH will proudly represent Uganda in the Under-17 category, with all their matches set to take place at the historic Lenana High School Boys’ Cricket Ground.
The team departed Kampala on August 17th and arrived safely in Nairobi the following day.
This afternoon, they held their first training session—a light fielding drill—at Lenana School Oval, which was briefly interrupted by rain.

Spirits remained high, with the players focused and ready ahead of their opening clash tomorrow against the hosting side, Obuya Cricket Academy U17.
Founded eight years ago by Jackson Ogwang—current Assistant Coach of the Cricket Cranes—PUSH (Persist Until Something Happens) was built with a mission to empower youth from Uganda’s underserved communities through cricket.
Over the years, it has become more than just a training ground; it’s a pipeline for national talent and a platform for young players to access quality education through key partnerships.
PUSH has already left a strong mark on Ugandan cricket, producing notable talents such as Ronald Omara, Fahad Mutagana, Yunus Sowobi, Pius Oloka, Ismail Munir, Ronald Opio, Edwin Nuwagaba, Jaffer Ochaya, Muhammad Abdallah Asiimwe, Anas Baig, Gurjivan Singh, Akram Nsubuga, and Musa Majida Ramathan.
Some have represented Uganda at the U19 World Cup in 2022, while others have broken into the Baby Cricket Cranes and the senior national team, including Teddy Oyella, Juma Miyaji, Ronald Lutaaya, Robinison Obuya, Cyrus Kakuru, Siraje Nsubuga, and Cosmas Kyewuta.

The Obuya Tournament, first held in 2006, was paused in 2020 due to COVID-19.
Its return in 2025 marks a renewed commitment to grassroots cricket in Kenya. Founded by the legendary Obuya brothers, the tournament will run from August 27–30, with teams split into two groups in a round-robin format.
Only the top team in each group will progress to the final, which will be streamed live.
While most academies will field teams across various age brackets, PUSH is competing exclusively in the U17 category.
