Former Uganda Cranes Skipper and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango has been named the DSTV Premiership Goalkeeper of the season.
Onyango who also won the Golden Glove award for keeping the highest number of clean sheets in the league was named as the best goalkeeper for the 2020/21 season during the PSL Awards ceremony on Sunday night.
The Ugandan shot-stopper kept 15 clean sheets from 25 appearances and helped the Masandawana win their 11th PSL title.
He beat off competitions from Veli Mothwa (AmaZulu FC) and Sifiso Mlungwana (Golden Arrows) for the ultimate crown.
Onyango has finally taken the goalkeeper of the season gong, having lost it to Ronwen Williams for the previous two seasons. It’s also his first since the 2015/16 season when he won his first.
Onyango has eight PSL winners medals having won three with former side Supersport United and five with Sundowns.
Meanwhile, Onyango’s teammate at Sundowns Peter Shalulile walked away with the DStv Premiership Player’s Player of the Season award and the PSL Footballer of the Season award.
The Namibian striker enjoyed an impressive first season with Sundowns after registering 22 goals across all competitions, including 15 in the league to beat off teammate Thembo Zwane and Thabiso Kutumela (Maritzburg United).
