Police FC registered a vital 2-0 win over Mbarara City in the Startimes Uganda Premier League, marking interim coach Matia Lule’s first victory since taking charge.

Goals from Umar Kasumba and Gaddafi Kacancu sealed the much-needed result for the Cops in a tense relegation battle at Kavumba Recreational Grounds.

Coming into the fixture, both teams were desperate for points as they seek to avoid the drop. However, it was Police FC who showed greater urgency and execution on the day. Kasumba opened the scoring with a clinical finish, giving the hosts an early edge. Kacancu later doubled the lead, putting the game beyond Mbarara City’s reach.

The win was a crucial boost for Police FC, not only handing Coach Lule a dream start to his tenure but also lifting the club to 12th place on the league table with 26 points—8 points clear of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Mbarara City remain in 13th with 23 points, just above the danger line.

With their fifth league victory, Police FC will now look to build momentum as the season enters its decisive phase. For Mbarara City, the loss raises further concerns as they fight to secure top-flight survival.

The result could prove pivotal in shaping the final weeks of the league campaign.
