University Football League
- UNIK 2-2 Muni
University of Kisubi (UNIK) finally secured their first point of the season in the 12th edition of the Pepsi University Football League after four consecutive defeats.
The Entebbe-based university mounted a remarkable comeback from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Muni University at home.
Muni University initially took control of the game through Lema Dickson’s quickfire brace in the first half.
The visitors, who had already seen two goals ruled out for offside, broke the deadlock in the 12th minute when Lema slotted home a clear goal.
Just two minutes later, he doubled the lead, putting Muni firmly in the driver’s seat.
UNIK, coached by Lukoki Jessy, had an early chance to take the lead, but Lumu Humphrey squandered the opportunity by firing over the bar.
After falling behind, Jessy made a tactical adjustment, pulling Odoi Livingston back into defense and introducing Mumbere Joel in the 22nd minute for Mugerwa Joshua.
The change paid off as Mumbere reduced the deficit in the 39th minute with a powerful shot from a tight angle.
Just before halftime, Muni suffered a setback when their goalkeeper, Sunday Julian, was forced off due to an injury following a collision with UNIK forward Assiimwe Guard.
He was replaced by Assiimwe Guard, and the first half ended 2-1 in favor of Muni.
UNIK started the second half brightly and won a free kick near the box just two minutes after the restart.
In the 48th minute, Kamya Beckham converted the set piece with a well-placed low shot, bringing the game level at 2-2.
Despite both teams pushing for a winner, the match ended in a stalemate, leaving Muni University in second place in Group E with five points from four matches, while UNIK remained at the bottom of the table with their first point of the season.
The league action continues tomorrow as Uganda Martyrs University, the Group E leaders, visit IUEA in Kansanga.
