University Football League
- UCU 5-1 Kabale
Uganda Christian University (UCU) delivered a commanding performance as they thrashed Kabale University 5-1 in a University Football League showdown at the UCU grounds in Mukono on Thursday, February 20.
Right from the kickoff, the former champions set the tempo with an early goal just two minutes in. Geoffrey Oyaka wasted no time in breaking the deadlock, firing a precise shot at the near post to put the hosts ahead.
The home side’s momentum only intensified, and four minutes later, Wambunga Marvin Praise soared above the defenders to connect with Patrick Ogola’s corner kick, doubling UCU’s lead.
The visitors struggled to contain UCU’s relentless attacks, and just past the half-hour mark, Harry Abiti unleashed a thunderous strike to further consolidate the hosts’ dominance.
With a 3-0 lead at halftime, UCU had already placed one foot firmly on the path to victory.
The second half saw UCU maintain their attacking intensity. Five minutes past the hour mark, Abiti completed his brace after a well-timed assist from Apenyo Isaac, putting the match further out of reach for Kabale.
Kyomuhendo Peter added the final flourish, scoring UCU’s fifth goal, courtesy of yet another assist from the influential Ogola, who registered a hat trick of assists on the day.
Kabale University managed to salvage a consolation goal through a penalty.
After Owanyi Michael was fouled in the box, Agaba Jovin stepped up to convert from the spot, denying UCU a clean sheet but doing little to change the outcome of the game.
This emphatic victory lifts UCU to second place in Group C with five points, just two behind table leaders St. Lawrence University.
Meanwhile, the University Football League action continues tomorrow as Group A’s top two teams face off, with IUIU set to host Busitema in Mbale at 3 PM.
