Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) edged past Busitema University with a hard-fought 1-0 victory in the University Football League clash held at their Mbale Campus.

Mugambe Faraji was the hero of the day, scoring the decisive goal in the 11th minute after capitalizing on a rebound off Busitema goalkeeper Ongu Emmanuel. The goal proved enough to secure maximum points and propel IUIU to the top of Group A, leapfrogging Nkumba University.

Busitema started the match on the front foot, with Okite Christopher coming close early on but failing to hit the target. IUIU responded with a chance of their own, but Shafiki Kawooya could not find the back of the net. Both teams continued to create scoring opportunities, but goalkeepers Ongu Emmanuel and Musasizi Sadat were in fine form, making crucial saves to keep the scoreline tight.

Despite a late surge from Busitema in search of an equalizer, IUIU’s defense held firm to seal a crucial win. The result sees IUIU take the Group A lead with 11 points, one ahead of second-placed Nkumba University.

The University Football League action continues on Friday, March 7, as Kumi University hosts Makerere University in a highly anticipated Group B encounter in Kumi.
