  • ISBAT 1-1 IUIU

It was a moment of history at Kanyanya Grounds as ISBAT University fought relentlessly to secure their first-ever point in the Pepsi University Football League.

The draw against Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), the Group A table leaders, was more than just a result—it was a statement of resilience, progress, and belief.

With a fresh approach and a new home ground after shifting from Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku, ISBAT entered the match with a newfound energy.

Edwin Laston’s squad, revamped and determined, took the fight to their more established opponents, showing a level of aggression and confidence unseen in their previous matches.

The first half saw ISBAT pressing high, creating several goal-scoring opportunities.

Captain Ssentongo Joshua was at the heart of the attack, coming close in the 35th and 42nd minutes—one attempt soaring over the bar and the other forcing IUIU’s goalkeeper Musasizi Sadat into a stunning save.

However, despite their dominance, the first half ended in a goalless stalemate.

As the second half kicked off, ISBAT’s relentless effort bore fruit.

Their most dangerous player on the pitch, Katende Bahiira, tormented the IUIU defense until he was brought down in the penalty box by Mwesigwa David in the 56th minute.

The referee pointed to the spot, and Ssentongo Joshua calmly slotted home the penalty, marking ISBAT’s first goal of the season and sending their supporters into jubilation.

With the clock ticking down, IUIU, initially lackluster, found their rhythm. Urged on by coach Kebba, they pushed for an equalizer.

Their persistence paid off just two minutes before the final whistle when Mumali Faizal capitalized on a defensive lapse, sending a composed shot into the far corner to snatch a point for the visitors.

Despite the late heartbreak, ISBAT’s performance was a sign of growth.

Though still bottom of Group A with one point, they proved they are no pushovers. Meanwhile, IUIU remained top with eight points.

As the league continues, ISBAT will hope to build on this momentum, while the next fixture will see Makerere University host Ndejje University on Saturday February 15, in what promises to be another thrilling encounter.
