Bugema University and Uganda Martyrs University settled for a 1-all stalemate in the first leg of Pepsi University Football League (UFL) quarterfinal clash played on Tuesday in Bugema.

Dennis Kimuli broke the deadlock for Bugema in the opening half while Sunny Kaija netted in the closing half for Uganda Martyrs to ensure the game ended with tied scores.

Kimuli’s goal came in the 11th minute from a spotkick after goalkeeper Saddam Omukoboi brought down Bugema’s Isaac Ssenyunja. Kimuli stepped up and converted from the spot to give his side an early lead.

Despite controlling most of the proceedings in the opening half, Bugema couldn’t add on their advantage so the game went into the break with the hosts leading 1-0.

Just like in the opening half, Bugema were also dominant but not clinical in the second half as they wasted a couple of goalscoring chances.

From against the run of play, just before the hour mark, UMC leveled matters thanks to Kaija’s well executed strike that oozed past Bugema’s custodian Henry Amuka.

After that leveller, both sides pushed for the winner but that wasn’t possible and they settled for a draw.

These two sides will meet again for the second leg in a fortnight time and will be hosted in Nkozi. The aggregate winner will progress to the competition’s semi-final.

Action in the University Football League quarterfinal will continue on Thursday evening as defending champions Uganda Christian University tales on Nkumba University.
