Atugonza Stuart scored Kabale University’s only goal to edge Uganda Christian University 1-0 in Kabale on Friday evening.

Kabale’s goal came twenty seven (27) minutes into the game after meeting Michael Aturinda’s cross in the box to slot the ball home.

Three minutes earlier the Cardinals started to knock on the door here with Abiti forcing the keeper into action twice in a matter of minutes before Mwebemzi handled Kyomuhendo’s cross in the box for a penalty call.

However Opio Allan misses from the spot as Kabale’s shot stopper Wutwali Derrick dived to punch it out to maintain the score at 0-0

In the second half, Harry Abiti who rose high 20 minutes after restart to head a perfect Bananywa Najib delivery from a set piece but unfortunately just went wide of the post.

Five minutes later, UCU’s Abiti continued to be a nightmare for the homeside with some beautiful link up play with Ariaka Jordan up the right in order to unlock this Kabale defence but all in vain.

With 13 left to play, a pressure free Busobozi Kareem managed to meet Harry Abiti’s free kick only to head the ball off target but later the hosts returned on the counter to force Cardinals’ shot stopper Mwidu David Elton into a wonderful save from the far post to at least keep the visitors with some hope of redemption.

This victory takes Kabale up a place to 4 poInts in Group C’s third position, level with SLAU and one less than YMCA.

On Saturday we shall witness a Group B encounter between Makerere University and Kumi at the Makerere University play ground -3pm
