Our Savior Basketball Family, a faith-based sports entity, has officially withdrawn both its men’s and women’s teams from the National Basketball League (NBL) after ten years of active participation in Ugandan basketball.

The club made the announcement via its social media platforms, confirming that its National Basketball League slots will be transferred to Sommet Basketball Club (men’s team) and Angels Basketball Club (women’s team).

A Decade of Impact in Ugandan Basketball

Our Savior Basketball Family has been home to Our Savior Men’s Basketball Club and Our Savior Banyabo Basketball Team, both of which have made significant contributions to Ugandan basketball.

The men’s team had an impressive run in the 2024 NBL regular season, finishing 6th before bowing out in the quarterfinals to the Namuwongo Blazers. Meanwhile, the women’s team, Our Savior Banyabo, clinched the Division One title, earning promotion to the National Ladies Basketball League, which is set to tip off on March 14, 2025.

Focus on Youth Development

Despite their exit from competitive league basketball, Our Savior Basketball Family remains committed to grassroots talent development. The club will continue running its weekly youth basketball camps under the theme “Jesus Never Stops,” ensuring that young athletes have a platform to nurture their skills while embracing Christian values.

Their departure marks the end of an era in Ugandan basketball, but their impact on the sport and youth development will undoubtedly live on.

The situation remains unclear for the men’s side, Our Savior, who were put up for sale in late 2024 due to financial difficulties faced by their key funders, Kelly Martin and John Paul Komakech.

The club’s future remains uncertain, as no official confirmation has been made regarding a buyer or whether they will participate in the upcoming season.

This becomes the second entity to exit the National Basketball League in a space of two years after Namuwongo Blazers did the same in 2023, only that this time it is for different reasons.
