On Wednesday evening, UCU Lady Canons will face experienced JKL Lady Dolphins in the Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
This will be game one out of the possible seven that will decide who will come out on top to champion Lady’s National Basketball League play-offs.
According to UCU Lady Canons head coach Nicholas Natuhereza, his team’s focus is to try to win game one;
We can not debate on the experience beat with them[ JKL Lady Dolphins]. I think we have been part of seven game series we know what that is about for the players and us the coaches our focus has to be just on one game and when the game starts it comes to possession in one quarter and then at some point can’t get caught up into the marathon.”
For us now the focus is on game one how do we try to win that and obviously there is confidence that we can actually have a successful run against the Lady Dolphins.
Talking about the match-ups,
You can’t win a series with just only two players, those two[ Shakira Nanvubya and Rose Akon] and the supporting cast have to be up for it, if they are not then obviously it will be tough on us.
We have some confidence in the players that have been backing them up, our team generally has been getting better with the season, I don’t think we are where we started from. We have a number of players that have gained confidence in Aziida Nabayunga, Hajjara Najuuko, Agatha Kamwada and they are surely going to play a big role for us.
Talking of Bridget Aber we are throwing her into the fire so that she can give us some minutes both defensively and offensively.
The three time NBL play-off Champions will face their former player in Flavia Oketcho Firlsh on the other side of fellow three time tittle championship holder JKL Lady Dolphins something that will tend to be an uphill on their side.
Away from Firlsh, well oiled JKL also have players like Brenda Akone, Hope Akello who have put up great performances in regular season.
On the Men’s side, seven time consecutive winner City Oilers will play against impressive Namuwongo Blazers on the same day.
