Ugandan runner Peruth Chemutai has won Uganda’s first female Olympics medal in history.
This is after she finished first to win gold in the women’s 3000m steeplechase race, posting 9:01:45.
She overtook USA’s Frerichs Courtney in the final lap who had led almost the entire race.
Frerichs came second to take Silver while Hyvin Kiyeng settled for Bronze in a highly contested race.
She becomes Uganda’s third medalist at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics after Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo won silver and Bronze in the Men’s 10,000m race last week.
