Uganda’s long distance runner and World’s number one Joshua Cheptegei has clinched a silver medal in the men’s 10,000m race at the ongoing 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan.
Going into this race, Cheptegei was favorite to win it but finised second behind Ethiopian Solomon Barenga (27:43:22) as he clocked 27: 43:53 to add an Olympics silver medal in his bag.
Another Ugandan in the race, Jacob Kiplimo won bronze as he posted 27:43:88 to finish third.
Stephen Kissa, who was the pace setter for the Ugandan duo retired with just eight laps to go.
Cheptegei and Kiplimo have won Uganda’s first medals at this year’s Olympic games.
The Ugandan trio now shift their attention to 5,000 meter race next Friday.
