Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) FC secured a spot in the Round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Kuluva Rainbow FC on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.
The match, held at Kuluva grounds in Arua, saw KCCA’s forward Derrick Nsibambi netting two early goals to establish a commanding lead.
Nsibambi opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to slot the ball past the Kuluva Rainbow goalkeeper.
He doubled the advantage just four minutes later, finishing a well-orchestrated team move to make it 2-0 by the 7th minute.
Despite the early setback, Kuluva Rainbow FC regrouped and managed to pull one back before halftime, intensifying the contest.
The second half saw both teams creating opportunities, but KCCA’s defense held firm to maintain their slender lead until the final whistle.
The victory over Kuluva Rainbow FC now means that the Lugogo-based club has now opened up their chances of a potential eleventh title, which has seemed so far from close for the past six years, having last won it in 2018 following a 1-0 victory over Vipers.
KCCA FC are tied with Express as the most decorated Uganda Cup holders with ten apiece, followed by SC Villa, who boast of nine.
In other Uganda Cup fixtures on the same day, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) FC edged out Mabira Town Council FC with a 1-0 win.
Elsewhere Gaddafi FC triumphed 3-1 over Bushenyi Veterans FC, and UPDF FC advanced after a tense penalty shootout against Pakwach Youngsters FC, following a goalless draw in regular time.
Notably, FUFA Big League side Blacks Power FC caused an upset by eliminating Uganda Premier League outfit NEC FC with a 2-0 victory at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
The Round of 16 draw is anticipated to present more interesting matchups as teams vie for this year’s Stanbic Uganda Cup title.
