The inaugural UCA Northerns Men’s 50-Over League launched in grand style on June 15, 2025, marking a historic moment for cricket in Gulu and Northern Uganda. Enthusiastic crowds gathered to witness two exciting matches that showcased emerging talent and fierce competition.

At St. Joseph’s College Layibi Ground, the Gulu Titans won the toss and opted to bat first, but their innings crumbled under pressure.

Struggling against disciplined bowling, they were bowled out for just 108 runs in 35.3 overs.

Extras played a significant role, contributing 29 to the total, as the top order faltered despite a determined 22 from Okello Aaron.

Owachgiu Brian starred with the ball for the Gulu Gladiators, claiming 3 key wickets to break the Titans’ middle order.

Chasing a modest target of 109, the Gladiators started cautiously but soon found themselves in trouble at 73/6.

However, composure prevailed as Ogenrwot Joshua anchored the innings with an unbeaten 30, supported by crucial contributions from Haider Ali and others.

Despite a valiant effort from Opiyo Tonny, who led the Titans’ bowling with an impressive 4-wicket haul, the Gladiators held their nerve.

Openy Denis finished things off in the 32nd over, guiding Gulu Gladiators to a hard-fought 3-wicket win in a tense, low-scoring encounter that kept fans on edge till the end.

Lira Sixers Dominate Gulu Blazers with Balanced Performance

At Gulu High Ground, the Lira Sixers chose to bat first and struggled early, losing quick wickets.

However, Igulu Cymprous played a calming role, crafting a well-timed 47 runs.

Supported by Kulbir Singh’s handy 11 and a significant 47 extras, the Sixers posted a competitive 134 all out in 32.5 overs.

The Gulu Blazers’ chase was derailed by tight bowling from Kapil Raste and Cymprous, who combined to dismantle the lineup.

Despite a determined 29 not out from Tumwebaze Marvin, the Blazers fell short, bowled out for 95 runs in 24.5 overs.

Cymprous shone with the ball as well, claiming 4 wickets for just 20 runs, while Raste added 3 wickets.

The Sixers secured a commanding 39-run win, thanks to disciplined bowling and timely batting.
