Uganda Premier League
- NEC FC Vs Kitara FC – MTN Omondi Stadium
NEC FC will be aiming to complete a season double over Kitara FC when the two sides lock horns in a highly anticipated StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) match day 23 fixture at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
The hosts, currently sitting second on the table with 48 points, will look to bounce back from a disappointing goalless draw against UPDF FC in their previous outing. NEC’s head coach Hussein Mbalangu will be eager to guide his team back to winning ways and maintain their title chase with just a handful of games left in the season.
NEC edged Kitara 2-1 in the first round fixture played in Hoima and will take confidence from that result into this encounter. However, they will have to be cautious against a revitalized Kitara FC side that demolished KCCA FC 4-0 in their last match at the Royals Park Stadium in Butema.
Kitara, under the guidance of coach Wasswa Bbosa, sit fifth on the table with 35 points. The Royals have shown improved form in recent weeks, having won four of their last six league games a run that has helped them stay in contention for a top-three finish.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Kitara FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum:
“We have done thorough preparations and our aim is to pick maximum points on Thursday. Well, we know they are enjoying a good run this season especially at home, but we want to close the gap on the top three by giving our best in the remaining games.”
Team news for NEC sees key absentees in Kelvin Barni and Kimwero Shamir, both ruled out through injury. Defender Jarieko James will also miss out due to suspension. On the bright side, defender Okao Jacob is available for selection again after serving his one-match ban.
Kitara will be boosted by the return of influential forward George Senkaaba, who missed the KCCA clash due to suspension. His presence could provide an added spark in attack as Kitara search for revenge against NEC.
With both sides in competitive form and chasing crucial points, Thursday’s clash promises to be a gripping affair with significant implications for the top of the UPL standings.
