The mood was somber on Sunday as the basketball community mourned the death of UPDF Tomahawks player Johnathan Obukunyang who tragically lost his life to an accident in Mukono.
Five National Basketball League games were played on the day and defending Champions Champions City Oilers continued with their poor run of results, a 53:50 defeat to Kampala Rockets at YMCA in Wandegeya was their 5th defeat out of nine games this season.
Oilers struggled for form with some of their most senior players in Fayed Baale, Ben Komaketch and Joseph Chuma combining for a total of 14 points, Fayed put up eight and three by each of the rest.
In the other games played, KCCA Panthers defeated KIU Titans 70:61, JT Jaguars lost 70:62 to Sommet
In the women’s league, KIU Rangers had to play with only one player on the bench having players like Firdausi Namulema, Florence and Rachael Nanyonga all out for netball duties. A possible explanation for their 72:63 loss to Magic stomers.
Defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins defeated Miracle Eaglets 79:53.
