NBL: UCU Canons hand Blazers first league loss

UCU Canons put up a sounding statement with a one point gap victory over table leaders Namuwongo Blazers handing them their first league loss in a 62-61 score at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

A game balanced on intensity with both teams each winning two quarters, UCU Canons came out at the top after last minute three points throw from Marvin Jesse Okutut lifted the Mukono boys from a 59 points to a one point gap victory setting the crowd ablaze as they put an end to Namuwongo’s 16 game unbeaten run.

UCU Canons started off a better side taking the first quarter in their hands with a 16:13 score before Namuwongo made a vital comeback in the second quarter with a 13:18 score.

A resilient UCU Canons made a comeback in the third quarter with a 15:11 score before a slim 1 point difference in the last quarter ending in an 18:19 score as Namuwongo couldn’t match the points difference.

Ibanda Lwabaga with 14 points and 7 rebounds and Jimmy Otim with 8 points and 2 rebounds were instrumental in the Nick Natuhereza side.

Micheal Makiadi the best performers of the day only registered 14 points and 5 rebounds but couldn’t help Namuwongo avoid a loss. Tonny Drileba registered 12 points and 6 rebounds.

In the other game played at Lugogo, UCU Lady Cardinals managed to secure a 71:62 victory against JT Lady Jaguars.
