Uganda 86/3 in 17.5 (Kenneth 26*, Riazat 24*, Obuya 19) beat Singapore 82 all out in 38.4 overs (Dutta 26, Desai 19, Nakrani 6-20 Juma Miyaji 2-20) by 7 wickets
Uganda’s left-arm batting all-rounder, Dinesh Kumar Nakrani, was the standout performer as Uganda clinched a dominant 7-wicket victory over Singapore in the opening match of the ICC Men’s Challenge League B at Entebbe on November 8, 2024.
Despite disruptions caused by inclement weather, which forced the game to be moved from Lugogo to Entebbe, Uganda launched their Challenge League B campaign on a high note, with Nakrani’s exceptional bowling setting the tone for the hosts.
After Singapore won the toss and elected to bat first, they started confidently, reaching 37 for no loss after the first 10 overs.
However, Uganda broke the early partnership in the 13th over, with Nakrani claiming his first wicket.
From there, Singapore’s batsmen struggled to build any momentum against Uganda’s disciplined and accurate bowling attack.
Nakrani delivered an outstanding performance, taking 6 wickets for just 20 runs in 9.4 overs, while Juma Miyaji supported with a solid 2 for 20.
Their combined efforts restricted Singapore to a modest total of 82 runs in 38.4 overs.
Left-arm spinners Alpesh Ramjani and Henry Ssenyondo also contributed, bowling economically and adding further pressure to the Singaporean innings.
In response, Uganda lost two quick wickets early on, leaving the score at 23 for 2.
However, captain Riazat Ali Shah (24*) and Kenneth Waiswa (26*) steadied the ship with a calm 45-run partnership, guiding Uganda to victory in just 17.5 overs, with 193 balls to spare.
Looking ahead, Uganda will take a two-day rest before facing Tanzania in their next match at Lugogo Oval on Saturday, November 9.
The tournament’s fixtures for the day will see Hong Kong take on Bahrain at Lugogo Oval, while Italy faces Tanzania at Entebbe Oval, both starting at 10 a.m
Uganda’s head coach, Abhay Sharma, reflected on the performance, saying,
“We were well-prepared with the ball, though we could be sharper with the bat.
We’ll take it one game at a time and continue building on this strong start.”
