The Mukono T20 Cup burst into life on Day One, delivering exactly the mix of drama, skill, and unpredictability that fans crave.

The day’s fixtures highlighted the fine margins in T20 cricket, with the Lugazi Trekkers and Njeru Warriors emerging victorious in contrasting yet equally compelling fashion.

The afternoon’s first clash saw the Lugazi Trekkers take on the Kayunga Titans in what turned out to be a showcase of all-round excellence.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, the Trekkers recovered from the early loss of Amos Ahura for just 2 runs through a masterful partnership between Jaffer Ochaya and captain Christopher Kidega.

Ochaya’s fluent 41 off 25 balls combined with Kidega’s unbeaten 50 off 33 to propel Lugazi to a formidable 104/1 in 10 overs, their innings marked by crisp strokeplay and intelligent running between the wickets.

The Titans began their chase with intent, powered by Martin Bwogi’s explosive 31 off 17 balls and steady contributions from captain Brian Asaba.

But Lugazi’s bowlers had other ideas. Ochaya’s double strike and Akena Innocent’s devastating 3/8 dismantled the middle order, leaving the Titans struggling to keep pace.

Late resistance from Brain Lwanga and Chadia Alex proved insufficient, and the Trekkers sealed a 21-run victory, demonstrating a perfect balance between composure and aggression.

Meanwhile, the Njeru Warriors’ afternoon encounter with the Buikwe Gladiators was a tense, see-sawing affair.

Electing to bowl first, the Warriors watched as Yunus Sowobi’s five-wicket blitz rattled the Gladiators, restricting them to 90/9 in 20 overs.

Chasing a modest total, the Warriors stumbled under pressure, collapsing to 25/4 before captain Edwin Nuwagaba’s steady 37 off 33 resurrected the innings.

With Ashraf Lujya threatening with tight bowling and the match hanging by a thread, Francis Ejok’s late cameo, including a match-winning boundary, guided the Warriors to a thrilling three-wicket triumph.

Day One provided a glimpse of the tournament’s competitive edge and high entertainment value.

As the action continues, Day Two promises fresh excitement with the Buvuma Sailors facing Mukono Development in the morning and the Buikwe Gladiators taking on the Kayunga Titans in the afternoon.

Fans can anticipate more tactical battles, breakout performances, and nail-biting finishes as the Mukono T20 Cup builds momentum toward an unforgettable season.
