Mukono Cricket Community to kick off historic first-ever T20 cup

The Mukono Cricket Community is set to host the inaugural Mukono T20 Cup at Florida Oval in Nkokonjeru, marking a significant milestone for cricket in the region.

The eagerly anticipated tournament promises not only thrilling competition but also a celebration of local talent and grassroots development.

Six teams, composed entirely of homegrown players—from emerging prospects to those nurtured through local cricket pathways—will compete in this first edition.

These teams are: Buikwe Gladiators, Buvuma Sailors, Kayunga Titans, Lugazi Trekkers, Mukono Development, Njeru Warriors

The tournament will adopt a double round-robin format, ensuring every team ample opportunity to compete and gain valuable match experience.

The top two teams following the round-robin stage will advance to the final on 28th November, with opening matches beginning tomorrow, 20th November.

To broaden its reach, all matches will be streamed live, allowing supporters from Mukono and beyond to follow the action in real time.

Matches will be officiated by some of Uganda’s top-tier umpires, while actively engaging the local cricketing community, underscoring the tournament’s dual purpose of competition and development.

Commenting on the event, Simon Kintu, Chairman of the Mukono Cricket Community, said:

We are thrilled to finally launch a tournament we have long envisioned

 Beyond entertainment, this event is a platform for our communities—Nkokonjeru, Ziba, Nnangunga, Ngogwe, and Kalagala—to come together, celebrate cricket, and nurture the next generation of players.”

A key focus of the Mukono T20 Cup is providing Under-19 players, Emerging players and cricket Cranes players with a stage to showcase their talent as they prepare for regional and national competitions.

At the same time, the tournament highlights the impressive crop of cricketing talent steadily emerging from Mukono, signaling a bright future for the sport in the district.
