The long-awaited motorsport events return this year with the Masaka Rally on the 10th of April as the 2020 calendar commences with round 3 in a one-day event dubbed the Bwera Bistrol Rally. Scrutineering will take place on Friday 9th April.
Rallying activities return after close to a year of a halt from their last event in 2020. The last event organised by the Eastern Motor Club the Jinja Rally ended successfully with Yasin Nasser claiming the championship.
The event organisers of Southern Motor Club (SMC) confirmed their readiness to host a one-day event which will run under the strict Covid 19 SOPs and the FIA guidelines. There will be no spectator maps allocated or sections put in place as the usual case for rallies.
The event Clark of Course (COC) Jared Karera confirmed that fans will not be allowed at the event as there will be no circuit this time around.
“Everything is set for the event to go on and the club will strictly adhere to covid guidelines in line with the ministry of health and National council of sports. The event will run in the greater Masaka region with no fans, and only for one day where 90% will be closed routes to limit the numbers of thirsty rally hunters,” he said.
The one-day event will have six stages and cover up to 179.73 km with most part of the event to be held in private farms as a point of avoiding spectators at the event. However, some big names will be missing out of action despite the return of Adam Ruff Essa and Jas Mangat into the fold.
The Shell sponsored Duo of Ronald Ssebuguzi and Arthur Blick Jr. alongside Usain Nasser are to miss the event on the event that will run on 10th of April after they failed to make it to the entry list by the closure date of 30th March when the entries were ended.
