Mangat wins the 2022 Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Rally

Uganda driver Jas Mangat and his navigator Joseph Kamya held to secure victory at the 2022 Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Rally on Sunday

Having won two of the three races in day one, Mangat finished the seven stages hosted in Mukono and Lugazi in 1:53:06.12 to clinch his second Pearl of Africa title.

The Ugandan driver won his first in 2013, driving with Kenya’s Gihan De Silver.

Mangat also becomes the first Ugandan to win this race in almost six years as Hassan Alwi was the last Ugandan to win it in 2016.

Mangat was 5:05 seconds ahead of his nearest competition ( Gomes Leroy and Gomes Urshala).

Rwanda’s Davite Giancarlo and his navigator Vindevogel finished in third to complete the podium places.

Ponsiano Lwakataka, who came into the race leading the NRC finished fourth after clocking 2:00:38.62.

This year’s Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Rally was the third round of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) this season.
