After four years of no action in the Pepsi University Football league, Makerere University returned with an exciting performance to take all the three points from a resistant YMCA side at the Makerere main ground on Tuesday.

The oldest Ugandan University won the game 1-0 courtesy of a Kasagga Sadat penalty that came in the first half after the ball was handled by YMCA’s Muwaya Sharif in the area.

The home side got an early sight at goal from a Ssenyange Asuman strike which went wide after a wonderful ball from Sadat.

The game went till the half hour mark with Makerere on the front foot and eventually broke the deadlock through a Sadat penalty in the 33rd minute to score their first goal of the 10th edition.

Just before the break, Makerere could have got the second but YMCA Goalkeeper Prosper Mukisa made a decent save to deny forward Reagan Okeny from close rage.

Following the restart, the visitors came back a rejuvenated side as they tried to push for a leveller but Desmond’s cross went wide after a nice work from Elijah Damba.

Despite the hosts being on the receiving end for most part of the second half, they had a chance to kill off the game in the 69th minute but Raymond failed to find the target after great work on the right by Kevin Ssekimbegga.

On the other side frustration continued to rise for YMCA as they could not have an equalizer with lots of chances being squandered by substitute Arnold Matovu.

At the end of the 90, Makerere University won the game 1-0 on their return.

After the game, Innocent Kiwanuka, the YMCA assistant coach came out to say “It’s not the end of the league, and this time Makerere were better than us. We hope to compete in the rest of the games”

For Makerere University head coach, he was happy with his team winning coming out say, “Am happy that we have won and we shall  go back and correct out the wrongs.”

Being asked about creating very few chances, he said.
