In a decisive clash for a semifinal spot at the annual Girls School Cricket Week tournament, Light SS delivered a commanding performance to defeat Jinja SS by 8 wickets, finishing top of Group A.
Jinja SS won the toss and chose to bat first, but their decision quickly unraveled as they slumped to 12/6 within the first 15 overs.
Their innings never recovered, collapsing to 29 all out in just 19.3 overs.
Tahia Nassuna was the lone resistance, scoring an unbeaten 13 off 19 balls—Jinja’s only batter to reach double figures.
Light SS’s bowlers were ruthless, with Sarah Tino taking 4 wickets for just 5 runs and Ritah Aliyo claiming 3 for 9 to dismantle the Jinja lineup.
In response, Light SS chased down the modest target in 11.3 overs, losing only two wickets. Mischelle Ariago led the way with a steady 16 runs, sealing a dominant win and a place in the semifinals.
Light SS will now face Sacred Heart SS in one semifinal, while Masaka SS will take on Olila High School in the other.
Elsewhere in the tournament, St. Henry’s High School Mukono defended a low total of 76 to beat Goodheart SS by 29 runs, thanks to tight bowling spells from Fausta Namubiru (3/6) and Tracy Nansamba (2/7).
In their nationals debut and only their second year playing cricket, Mt. St. Henry’s High School impressed with three wins from seven matches, including some narrow losses.
It’s been a strong campaign, and they’re aiming to come back even better next year.
Light SS also made light work of Mt. Rwenzori earlier, chasing down a target of 35 after a 4-wicket haul by Ritah Aliyo.
Iganga SS crushed St. James SS by 9 wickets after bowling them out for just 24.
Masaka SS narrowly edged Ndejje SS by 14 runs, with skipper Hasifah Naula contributing a crucial 24 runs.
St. John’s SS dominated Gayaza with a 61-run win, led by an all-round performance from Shadia Giringish.
In the afternoon fixtures, Olila High School bowled out Sacred Heart for 31 and cruised to a 9-wicket win.
St. John’s SS returned to the field with a 10-wicket win over St. Henry’s.
Masindi SS edged past Gulu High in a tense finish, winning by 4 wickets, while Mt. Rwenzori bounced back strongly to beat Nyakasura by 9 wickets.
As the group stage concludes, Light SS and Olila High School top their respective groups, while Goodheart SS and St. James SS exit the tournament without a win, each suffering seven straight losses.
