Kizito: “We Can’t Take Niger for Granted”

Uganda Cranes defender Gavin Kizito has warned his teammates against complacency ahead of tomorrow’s crucial CHAN 2024 Group C clash with Niger at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The Cranes currently sit second in Group C with three points from two matches—one point behind leaders Algeria, who have four points. Uganda opened their campaign with a heavy 3-0 defeat to Algeria before bouncing back in style with a 3–0 win over Guinea, courtesy of goals from Reagan Mpande, Allan Okello, and Ivan Ahimbisibwe.

Reflecting on the group’s unpredictability, Kizito drew from Uganda’s own turnaround:

“We lost our first game and bounced back with a win in the second. It’s possible for Niger to do the same. We can’t take them for granted; we need to win this game.”

The defender stressed the importance of full commitment from the squad:

“Yes, we are ready to make every minute on the pitch count. Every player in the camp is prepared, and we’re ready to take on Niger tomorrow.”

Victory over Niger, who are bottom of the table with zero points from one match, would put Uganda in pole position ahead of their final group game against South Africa on August 18.
