Kitara FC’s hopes of bouncing back from their recent defeat were dashed on Thursday as they were held to a 0-0 draw by a determined Lugazi FC in a closely contested Uganda Premier League clash at the Royal Park in Butema on Tuesday evening.

Coming off a 2-1 loss to NEC, the hosts were eager to return to winning ways in front of their home fans.

Kitara dominated possession throughout the match, especially in the second half, but were continually frustrated by a well-drilled Lugazi defense.

Kitara’s front three – Patrick Kaddu, Jude Ssemugabi, and George Ssenkaaba – tried to unlock the visitors’ backline, creating several half chances and threatening on the counter.

However, Lugazi’s goalkeeper Juma Mutebi stood tall, pulling off a string of vital saves to keep the hosts at bay and secure his side a valuable point.

The result marks a notable defensive improvement for Lugazi, who had recently thrown away a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw against UPDF.

The clean sheet was a welcome boost for the 11th-placed side, who had not tasted victory since March.

The draw leaves Kitara FC in fifth place on the table with 36 points, missing an opportunity to climb higher in the standings.

Lugazi, meanwhile, move to 28 points and sit 11th as they continue their battle to steer clear of the relegation zone.

With only a few games remaining, both teams will be looking to finish the season on a strong note, Kitara by sharpening their attack, and Lugazi by continuing their newfound defensive resilience.

The other game on the day saw Bright Stars at Kavumba play out another barren draw with Wakiso Giants.
