In a thrilling Day 3 encounter at the Batball X Jinja T10, cricket fans were treated to a mix of explosive batting, disciplined bowling, and dramatic finishes at the Jinja SS Cricket Oval.
The highlight of the day was a sensational performance from Christopher Kidega, who single-handedly powered the Rhinos to a vital victory over the Elephants as his side will avoid unform Leopards in the Semis.
The Rhinos’ innings began cautiously, with Mathias Ssentongo showing glimpses of aggression before falling for 11.
Dan Rubangakene followed suit, leaving the Rhinos under early pressure. But Kidega, undeterred, unleashed a torrent of strokes that electrified the crowd.
His blistering 73 off just 37 balls, featuring seven fours and three towering sixes, not only anchored the innings but also set the highest individual score of the tournament.
The Rhinos posted a competitive 109/3 in their allotted 10 overs, with contributions from Ronald Omara and Ali Baliddawa adding valuable support.
When the Elephants came out to chase, Rhinos’ bowlers responded with precision. Pitty Daniel, Brain Kimaleni, and Ronald Omara shared wickets, while Kidega chipped in with a crucial scalp, keeping the visitors on the back foot.
Despite a fighting 46 from Abraiz Ali Mir, the Elephants fell short at 90 all out, leaving the Rhinos celebrating a morale-boosting win and climbing off the bottom of the table.
Meanwhile, the Leopards continued their unbeaten run, asserting dominance in the group stages.
They defeated the Bulls by 47 runs and later overcame the Rhinos by six wickets, finishing atop the table with a perfect record of 16 points from four wins.
The Leopards’ combination of disciplined bowling and steady batting proved too strong for all their opponents.
In other group-stage clashes, the Elephants beat Bulls by 15 runs, while the Rhinos overcame the Elephants by 19 runs, setting the stage for an electrifying semi-final lineup.
Tomorrow, the tournament enters the knockout phase: top-placed Leopards will face the Bulls in Semi-Final 1, while second-placed Elephants will take on the Rhinos in Semi-Final 2.
The winners will advance to the finals, while the losing teams will battle it out in the third-place playoff, ensuring more drama, flair, and excitement for fans.
