In a ruling that underscores the importance of player eligibility and the integrity of football competitions, the FUFA Appeals Committee has dismissed KCCA FC’s appeal against the decision made by the FUFA Disciplinary Panel.

The appeal, which was filed after KCCA FC contested the panel’s ruling, has been unequivocally rejected, with the Appeals Committee fully upholding the original decision.

The crux of the case revolved around KCCA FC’s decision to field an ineligible player, Gavin Kizito Mugweri, during their Uganda Premier League match against Mbarara City FC on January 7th, 2025.

Despite KCCA FC’s appeal, the FUFA Appeals Committee maintained that the Disciplinary Panel’s decision was correct and just, confirming that the match result must stand.

As a consequence of the ineligible player, KCCA FC lost the match by forfeiture, with Mbarara City FC being awarded three points and three goals.

The Appeals Committee was clear in its reasoning, reiterating the club’s sole responsibility to ensure that all players on the field are eligible under the competition rules.

This principle is critical not just for the fairness of individual matches, but for the integrity of the entire competition. Fielding ineligible players compromises the reliability and trust that fans, players, and stakeholders place in the game.

The ruling serves as a timely reminder to all clubs about the importance of adhering to the regulations, particularly when it comes to player eligibility.

Clubs must take extra care to ensure compliance with all requirements before taking to the pitch, as failure to do so results in serious consequences, such as the forfeiture of points and goals, as seen in this case.

For KCCA FC, the Appeals Committee’s decision highlights the necessity of maintaining rigorous internal checks and balances to avoid such errors in the future.

While the club may have hoped for a reversal of the Disciplinary Panel’s decision, the outcome reflects the unwavering stance of the FUFA in promoting fairness and discipline within Ugandan football.

Ultimately, the FUFA Appeals Committee’s ruling reaffirms that no club is above the rules and that accountability in football is paramount to preserving the integrity of the game.
