Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) failed to maintain their winning momentum, losing three straight sets to Armée Patriotique Rwandaise (APR) Volleyball Club at the CAVB Zone V Club Championship.

The match was tense, with KAVC initially taking an early lead in the first set.

However, APR quickly leveled the score at 6-all and, after gaining a 9-6 advantage, KAVC called their first timeout.

Despite their efforts, poor game reading cost KAVC the first set, with APR claiming it 25-18.

In the second set, KAVC lost their opening serve and struggled to find their rhythm.

Nevertheless, they fought back, leveling the score at 4-all, 8-all, and 9-all, eventually taking the lead.

However, multiple service errors allowed APR to stay in contention, and at 18-all, the match remained neck-and-neck.

APR edged out KAVC, winning the second set 25-22.

The third set saw KAVC score first, but APR quickly responded, gaining a 15-11 lead.

It seemed as though KAVC was beginning to concede defeat, as they made more unforced errors, and APR eventually claimed the set 25-23, despite a late fight from KAVC.

While APR dominated the first set by a seven-point margin (25-18), the remaining sets were closely contested, with both teams battling until the final whistle.

KAVC had started the tournament with a solid 3-1 win over Tanzania’s Prisons, but they couldn’t build on that momentum.

To stay in the hunt for progression, KAVC will need to win their next Group D match against COBRA on Saturday at Old Kampala.

Following this tense game, the event was officially opened by prominent figures, including Uganda Olympic Committee President Dr. Donald Rukare, National Council of Sports (NCS) President, Buganda Kingdom Sports Minister Owek. Robert Sserwanga, CAVB Zone V and Uganda Volleyball Federation President Sadik Nasiwu, and NCS General Secretary Dr. Patrick Bernard Ogwel who was the chief guest at the ceremony which was accompanied by traditional dances and celebrations.

The third edition of the CAVB Zone V Club Championship continues at both the Lugogo Indoor Arena and Old Kampala Sports Arena in Kampala until 4th March.
