In a season defining performance, Ugandan striker Juliet Nalukenge played a crucial role in guiding her side, 1207 Antalyaspor, to the Turkish Women’s Super League after a commanding 2-0 victory over Dudullu in the playoff finals of the Turkish Women’s First League.
Nalukenge, a standout forward for Uganda’s national team, the Crested Cranes, was on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes of the tense final, leading the line with relentless energy and determination.
Her pressing and movement created constant problems for the opposition, as Antalya seized their chance to book a place in Turkey’s top division for the 2025-26 season.
The match began with both sides locked in a fierce tactical battle, but the deadlock was broken dramatically just before the halftime whistle.
In the second minute of stoppage time, chaos erupted in Dudullu’s box when their goalkeeper failed to clear the ball cleanly.
A desperate handball by a defender on the goal line not only earned her a red card but also handed Antalyaspor a penalty. Midfielder Selin Sivrikaya coolly stepped up and converted, giving Antalya a crucial 1-0 lead going into the break.
With Dudullu down to ten players, Antalya pushed for a second goal in the second half. Nalukenge continued to pressure the defense, playing a key part in unsettling Dudullu’s rhythm.
The breakthrough came again through Sivrikaya in the 66th minute. After a smart run and perfectly timed pass, she lobbed the goalkeeper with her first touch to double the lead and effectively seal the match.
Antalya remained solid at the back, comfortably seeing out the rest of the game to secure promotion.
The final capped off an impressive playoff run for Nalukenge, who had earlier scored the decisive goal in extra time during the semifinals, proving her knack for stepping up in crucial moments.
Her efforts throughout the campaign, especially in the high-stakes playoff stages, have not only helped her club achieve promotion but also solidified her status as one of Uganda’s rising football stars abroad.
With 1207 Antalyaspor now set to compete in the Turkish Women’s Super League next season, Juliet Nalukenge’s star continues to rise, carrying with it the hopes of a growing legion of fans back home.
