Jacob Kiplimo has been mentioned as part of a 5 man lineup of athletes competing for the out of stadium athlete of the year 2024 title.
The “Out-of-Stadium” Athlete of the Year award, presented by World Athletics recognizes the most outstanding performers in events that take place outside the regular track and field stadium.
With two Olympic champions from Paris and the man who broke his half marathon record on Sunday, Kiplimo is in great company, or rather faces stiff competition.
In March, Kiplimo won the World Athletics Cross country championships gold in the Serbian capital of Belgrade, defending the title he had earlier won in Bathurst, Australia and he became the fourth man in history to win these back to back titles. Ethiopian legend Kenenisa Bekele, Kenyans Geoffrey Kamworor and Paul Tergat are the other three to have done so.
Earlier in January, Kiplimo had also won the Valencia 10k road race and it’s for these titles that he has been considered.
Other nominees include Olympics marathon Championship, Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia who also smashed the Olympic record with that finish in Paris where Kenyan’s Benson Kipruto took bronze and also won the Tokyo marathon.

Another Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha has one on Kiplimo already having broken his half marathon world record by a second on Sunday and also posted the best time across 10km distance this year.
Another in contention is the Olympic 20km race walk champion Brian Pintado of Ecuador who also bagged a silver in the marathon race walk mixed relay.
Everyone has a chance to vote for their favourite athlete by simply retweeting a dedicated post on the world athletics X handle and through all other plartforms, this exercise will however be closed on 3rd November.
