The Uganda A team is already in Rwanda for the upcoming Quadrangular T20 Series, slated to run from November 21 to 29, 2024.

This series, featuring Uganda A, Rwanda A, Zimbabwe E, and the hosts’ second side, Rwanda XI, will serve as a vital platform for Uganda’s emerging cricketers to gain competitive international experience.

The competition kicks off on November 21, with Uganda A facing Rwanda XI in their opening match, followed by a clash against Zimbabwe E on November 22.

The round-robin format ensures each team plays one another twice, with the series culminating in the final and a third-place playoff on November 29.

At helm of Uganda A is head coach Davis Turinawe, who brings a wealth of experience, also serving as the Development Manager for Uganda Cricket Association.

The team will be led by Roger Mukasa Galiwango as captain, aiming to steer his side to victory.

Among the squad, opening batsman Simon Ssesazi is set for a comeback. After recent struggles with the bat, this series provides an opportunity for him to regain form and secure his place in the team.

Meanwhile, spinner Joseph Baguma and his close friend Pascal Murungi—both eager to prove themselves after Pascal having limited playtime during the Cricket League (CLB)

Fast bowler Ivan Baidu, who made an impact during the Bahrain series, is expected to lead the pace department.

The squad also includes promising talents like Sirage Nsubuga, who debuted for the Cricket Cranes last year  during the continental cup in Nairobi, alongside Cyrus Kakuru, Jonathan Sebanjya, and Ronald Lutaaya who have all as well featured for the Cricket Cranes.

Notably, the squad features several players who represented Uganda at the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 qualifiers in Dar es Salaam, including Musa Majid Ramathan, the tournament’s Uganda’s opening bowler, and Anas Baig, who held a crucial spot in the top order of the Under-19.

All-rounder Christopher Kidega, who missed the qualifiers due to a back injury, makes his return in national team colors.

However, Gerald Olipa and Mathew Musinguzi, other promising youngsters from that under-19 cohort, missed out being available for selection on this series as he is currently sitting for exams.

Adding further experience to the squad are Calvin Watuwa and Steven Wabwose, who played for Uganda Under-19 from 2015 to 2017.

Watuwa, fresh off a stint in the Zimbabwe league, is looking to build on his recent resurgence in form.

With a blend of experienced players and rising stars, Uganda A is set to make a strong impact in the Quadrangular T20 Series in Rwanda, aiming for silverware and valuable experience for the future of Ugandan cricket.

The tournament is a key opportunity for young players to develop and prepare for bigger challenges ahead.

UCA Selector and Team Manager Richard Okia stressed

“This series supports our mission to build a high-performance culture and strengthen pathways from grassroots to the senior team. It gives players crucial exposure to international competition and helps us identify future stars.”

Coach Davis Turinawe added

“The series offers a platform to nurture young talent while allowing seasoned players to refine their skills.

Competing against teams like Zimbabwe Emerging and Rwanda’s best will elevate our players and prepare them for senior international cricket.”

A livestream will be offered for this tournament to make sure that fans from all over the world can follow these games
